A couple of weeks ago, I shared a desk that my husband had found in the trash after months of searching for one with no luck. The Saturday after I finished that one, I ran across another one. Isn't it funny how that works? Searching and searching with no luck and then God starts throwing desks at you. Not literally, because you know, that would hurt! Anyway, it seems I keep finding great furniture begging to be given new life. I don't need another desk, but this desk needed a new life! I've decided when I find something, I'll fix it up and put back out there in the world ready to serve it's new found, and prettier purpose. Very soon, we'll have tabs added to the blog so you can shop these fabulous, re purposed pieces! So excited about that!
So, you're probably wondering who Kelly is. I may have nicknamed the new desk. She is beautiful and named after her fabulous new color.
This is Kelly in her original state:
Not so glam!
It had great lines though, so I decided to look past the yuck. See that electric sander? You need one! It makes refinishing furniture so much easier!
Cleaned it, sanded it, cleaned it some more....
Kelly also needed at mate.
I'm sure I've probably seen uglier chairs in my life, I just can't remember them after looking at this. I certainly have not seen anything more uninspiring or dirty! But, I'm all about giving things second chances so I thought I would give it a try.
Found them right next to each other...so it seemed they were meant to be.
I got both of them at
Have you been to one yet? If you have one near you go today!!!
Back to the project. This is the pair we were working with. After all the cleaning and sanding, it needed primer. I knew the color I was using was dark, so I wanted to go with a dark tinted primer.
Better already! Now, I want to paint something gray. I may suffer from design ADD!
It took several coats because of the deep color, but I think the extra time was well worth it!
Sweet Georgia Brown! How beautiful and glam is that vintage brass lamp? I found it at Goodwill for $3.99! Please don't hate me! You may have seen something similar before floating around Pinterest.
I pinned this just a few weeks before I found the similar one at Goodwill! I have no idea what the original source on this photo is, so if you know where it's from please let me know.
Would you believe, that chair surprised me! After it was all said and done, it cleaned up beautifully! The fabric I used mimics the lines of the chair. A beautiful cream, black and green stripe! The gold leafed legs ties it all together beautifully!
I really wish I needed two desks! I love the way it turned out! I hope it inspires you to look past the ugly for your future furniture needs!
If you don't already follow me on Instagram you'll want to...I'm thrifting in Chicago today! That should produce all sorts of interesting finds!
